At Fundació CARES, logistics is more than just the efficient movement of goods—it’s a powerful platform for social change. The foundation’s work across Catalonia stands as a testament to how inclusive employment practices can transform lives and build stronger communities.
A Model of Inclusive Employment
Fundació CARES currently employs 133 individuals with severe disabilities in various logistics services across Catalonia. This is not just a statistic; it represents real opportunities for personal and professional growth, a breaking down of societal barriers, and a renewed commitment to empowering untapped talent.
A Diverse Team, A Unified Impact
The workforce at CARES reflects a rich tapestry of abilities and experiences:
- 59.5% are professionals with intellectual disabilities
- 27% have mental health conditions
- 13.5% live with physical or sensory disabilities
Together, these team members contribute meaningfully to operations at the Barcelona Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) and other logistics hubs across the region. Whether as warehouse operators or certified forklift drivers, their contributions are critical to CARES’ success.
Specialized Training for Lasting Success
At the heart of CARES’ model is a strong emphasis on education and skill-building. The foundation offers specialized training in:
- Warehouse management
- Food handling
- Hazardous materials management
- Forklift and platform operations
Participants can also obtain the Certificate of Professional Competence in Auxiliary Warehouse Activities, an official qualification that opens doors to broader roles within the supply chain sector.
A Personalized Path to Employment
Through the CARES Method, individuals receive hands-on training and tailored support to build confidence and competence. Once they are ready, the employment integration team steps in to support their transition to mainstream employment, ensuring long-term inclusion and sustainability.
Supported by Public Commitment
This impactful work is made possible with the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya, under Line 1 subsidies designed to promote the integration of people with disabilities in special employment centers. It’s a powerful example of how public-private collaboration can drive meaningful change.
What Are You Doing to Advance Inclusion?
The story of Fundació CARES reminds us that diversity is not just a value—it’s a strength. When we open doors for everyone, we create organizations that are more innovative, resilient, and human.
Workplace inclusion is not a trend; it’s a commitment. At CARES, that commitment has already changed over 130 lives—and counting.
